At least 11 security personnel were martyred after a terrorist attack targeted a joint security forces and law enforcement agencies checkpost in Bajaur district on Monday, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.
According to the military’s media wing, the assault was carried out by the Indian proxy Fitna al Khwarij, but the attack was swiftly foiled, with 12 militants eliminated in the operation.
ISPR stated that the assailants attempted to breach the security of the joint checkpost. However, their plans were thwarted by the Pakistan’s security forces.
Troops engaged the fleeing attackers with precision and professionalism, killing 12 terrorists during the exchange.
Explosive-laden vehicle causes heavy damage
In a desperate move, the attackers rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the perimeter wall of the checkpost. The powerful blast caused the collapse of the checkpost infrastructure. As a result, 11 soldiers were martyred, according to the ISPR statement.
The explosion also caused severe destruction to nearby civilian residential buildings. Tragically, a young girl was martyred, while seven others, including women and children, sustained injuries.
Sanitisation operation underway
ISPR confirmed that sanitization operations are ongoing in the area to eliminate any other Indian-sponsored terrorists that may be present.
The military reiterated that the counterterrorism campaign under Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan, will continue at full pace.
Security forces and law enforcement agencies remain committed to wiping out the menace of foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country.
“The sacrifices of our brave soldiers and innocent civilians further reinforce our unwavering commitment to safeguarding our nation at all costs,” the statement concluded.
