The Election Commission has summoned Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi tomorrow for violating the code of conduct.
A key meeting was held at the Election Commission under the chairmanship of Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja regarding Chief Minister Sohail Afridi’s participation in a rally in Havelian yesterday and his alleged threats to election staff.
During the meeting, the ECP’s legal team briefed the members on the matter of Afridi’s alleged threats.
The Election Commission summoned the KP CM tomorrow over the code of conduct violation, expressing concern during the meeting over Sohail Afridi’s inflammatory speech at the Havelian rally.
According to the report, the CM used harsh language against the district administration, police, and election staff. The Chief Minister’s participation in the election campaign is a violation of the Election Act 2017.
The Election Commission has also directed the Provincial Election Commissioner to hold an emergency meeting with the Inspector General of Police.
It is noteworthy that in his speech at the Havelian rally, KP CM Sohail Afridi said something big is about to happen in Pakistan. He warned that those who change votes on November 23 in Haripur ‘will not see the light of dawn’.
He complained that despite fulfilling all legal requirements, an elected chief minister is not being allowed to meet his leader. “Now only one option remains, and we will surely adopt it,” he said. “If we are pushed against the wall, we are like lions - we will strike with our claws and hunt as well.”
