In a major counter-narcotics operation, the Pakistan Navy ship PNS Yarmook successfully seized drugs worth $97.2 million during a mission in the northern Arabian Sea, reaffirming Pakistan’s strong role in ensuring regional maritime security.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation was conducted under the Saudi-led Combined Task Force 150, a multinational coalition focused on combating maritime terrorism and illegal trafficking in international waters.
Testament to professionalism, dedication
The Pakistan Navy described the operation as a landmark success that demonstrates the professional excellence and operational readiness of its fleet.
The mission also showcased Pakistan’s effective collaboration with international partners, including Saudi Arabia, to curb transnational crimes and maintain peace and stability at sea.
Naval Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf commended the professionalism, skill, and dedication of the PNS Yarmook crew, saying the successful mission reflects the Navy’s firm resolve to safeguard national maritime interests and eliminate illegal activities in regional waters.
Leaders praise Navy’s achievement
In separate statements, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif lauded the operation, calling it a shining example of Pakistan Navy’s professionalism and courage.
President Zardari said the successful operation reflects the Navy’s “commitment to regional peace and maritime security” and has further strengthened Pakistan’s positive image globally. He added that PNS Yarmook’s achievement highlights the country’s vital role in ensuring stability in the Arabian Sea region.
Prime Minister Sharif also congratulated the Navy for its historic success, noting that PNS Yarmook foiled an attempt to smuggle drugs worth billions of rupees, reaffirming the force’s operational superiority.
“The Pakistan Navy is proving its mettle all over the world. The entire nation, including me, is proud of our naval officers and sailors,” the pemier said.
Pakistan Navy’s expanding global role
The ISPR noted that the successful operation under the Combined Task Force 150 further underscores Pakistan Navy’s active participation in international maritime security operations and its commitment to eradicating illegal trade routes used for narcotics, weapons, and human trafficking.
The Navy reaffirmed that it will continue to play a leading role in ensuring peace at sea, supporting allied nations in their efforts against maritime terrorism and smuggling.
Commitment to maritime security continues
Admiral Naveed Ashraf reiterated that the Pakistan Navy remains vigilant in protecting the nation’s economic interests, trade routes, and territorial waters. He vowed continued cooperation with regional and global partners to ensure safe and secure seas for all.
The operation, officials said, not only reflects Pakistan’s operational readiness and global credibility but also serves as a strong deterrent against illegal maritime networks operating in the region.
