A passenger held in the custody of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) escaped from Karachi Airport, prompting immediate disciplinary action against two officials on duty.
According to FIA officials, the incident took place during the night shift, when an unusually large number of passengers were present. The suspect, identified as Abdul Samad, was under custody for attempting to flee abroad despite being listed on the immigration department’s manual stop list.
Authorities had arrested Samad in connection with a murder case registered in Khairpur on August 12. While still handcuffed, the suspect managed to leave the premises unnoticed. Other security agencies present at the airport also failed to intercept him.
Following the incident, FIA officials suspended the female shift in-charge and the head constable on duty, instructing them to report to the zonal office. An inquiry into the matter has commenced.
FIA sources noted that negligence and failure to follow standard operating procedures allowed the suspect to escape. Investigations into the conduct of the suspended personnel are ongoing.
