President Zardari says sports can build bridges between Pakistan and Bangladesh

President Asif Ali Zardari hosted a dinner in honour of the national cricket teams of Pakistan and Bangladesh, following their recent cricket series.

The event, organized by Federal Minister Mohsin Naqvi, brought together players and officials from both teams in a spirit of sportsmanship and regional friendship.

President Zardari warmly greeted the players and team officials, acknowledging the Pakistani team’s commendable performance during the recent series. He also shared heartfelt reflections on the shared history of Pakistan and Bangladesh.

"I belong to the generation that witnessed the separation," said the president. "Today’s generation may not fully grasp the pain of that division."

He praised the Bengali people, calling them "one of the richest nations in the region," and emphasized the importance of building stronger ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh.

"There is a need to work towards bringing both countries closer," President Zardari said. "We must focus on the welfare of the people of both nations."

Highlighting Bangladesh's development, the president said it is now recognized globally as a successful country, and, like Pakistan, is blessed with natural resources.

He urged both countries to identify and utilize the wide-ranging opportunities for mutual cooperation. "Our youth must increase their interaction, and sports can play a vital role in building those connections."

The event concluded on a hopeful note, with a call for greater collaboration and people-to-people contact between Pakistan and Bangladesh, particularly through sports and cultural exchange.
