Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) has reaffirmed its commitment to the peaceful use of nuclear technology, highlighting the country’s progress in health, energy, and agriculture sectors.
In a statement issued on the occasion of May 28 — a day celebrated to mark Pakistan becoming a nuclear power — the PAEC emphasized that significant advancements have been made in the peaceful application of nuclear technology.
The commission noted that 20 cancer hospitals across the country are providing state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment facilities. Nearly 80% of cancer patients in Pakistan benefit from these hospitals.
Additionally, six nuclear power plants are currently generating 3,530 megawatts of affordable and environmentally friendly electricity, contributing to the nation’s energy security.
In the agricultural sector, four nuclear institutes have developed 159 high-yield and resilient crop varieties, playing a key role in ensuring food security. The Nuclear Institute for Agriculture and Biology in Faisalabad is also developing naturally colored cotton.
The PAEC reaffirmed its commitment to promoting sustainable development through the peaceful use of nuclear technology, ensuring continued contributions to national progress.
