Islamabad Special Central Judge Shahrukh Arjumand has dismissed a review petition filed by Adiala Jail authorities seeking to revoke certain court-ordered privileges granted to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan.
The court upheld its earlier orders allowing Khan to speak with his sons living abroad and receive medical checkups from his personal physician.
Adiala Jail officials had argued that these privileges violated prison rules and were inconsistent with the Constitution. They maintained that allowing a prisoner to make international phone calls and consult a private doctor was not permitted under existing jail regulations. They also expressed concern that such special treatment had triggered similar demands from other inmates.
In a detailed report submitted to the court, jail authorities stated that the court's orders contradicted Article 25 of the Constitution, which guarantees equality before the law and prohibits discrimination. They warned that the court’s directive could be misused in the future and might undermine prison discipline and uniformity in treatment.
Despite these objections, Special Central Judge Shah Rukh Arjumand, in a brief ruling, stated that all relevant facts had been thoroughly considered before passing the original order. The court directed the Adiala Jail Superintendent to implement its decisions issued on January 10, January 28, and February 3 without delay.
