A petition has been filed in the Islamabad High Court seeking parole-based release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, citing serious security threats amid growing regional tensions with India.
The petition, filed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, alleges that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi considers Imran Khan his greatest adversary and could go as far as targeting Adiala Jail with a drone strike to exact revenge.
“India has launched drone attacks on several cities. In such circumstances, the life of the PTI founder is in grave danger while in jail,” the petition claims. It further states that during his tenure as Prime Minister, Imran Khan exposed Modi on global platforms, causing him international embarrassment.
The plea argues that prolonged imprisonment in politically motivated cases is a violation of Imran Khan’s fundamental rights. It notes that the Constitution allows for parole in cases where a prisoner’s health or safety is at risk.
The petition also highlights Imran Khan's exemplary conduct during incarceration, noting no violations of prison rules and asserting that his continued detention poses risks to his deteriorating health. It adds that a formal request had already been submitted to the Punjab Home Department but no action was taken.
Citing relevant provisions of the Constitution, international legal precedents, and prison rules, the petition urges the court to consider releasing Imran Khan on parole.
