Pakistan is bracing for a harsh winter this year with the first powerful western disturbance of the season expected to bring rain, hail, and snowfall across the country from October 16 to 21.

While winter in Pakistan typically lasts from November to March, the early snowfall in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) is a sign of the harsh weather that is to come.

The northern parts of the country, including Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and KP are expected to receive the heaviest snowfall while Punjab and Sindh are expected to experience downpours and moderate to heavy rains.

The early snowfall in KP has already caused disruptions, with several roads blocked in Mansehra and Kaghan valley.
