At least 11 police personnel were martyred in an attack on two police vehicles by robbers in Rahim Yar Khan’s Tehsil Sadiqabad on Thursday.

The police personnel were returning from duty in the Fatehpur Basti Salman area when their vehicles were ambushed. According to sources, there were over 15 police officers in the two vehicles, making it a massive targeted attack.

District Police Officer (DPO) Imran Ahmad confirmed the incident, stating that the robbers attacked when one of the police mobiles broke down near Fatehpur.

He added that a team from across the district has been dispatched to the site to assist in the investigation.

The attack has led to multiple casualties and injuries among the officers. A district-wide team has been dispatched to the scene to manage the situation and gather further details.

The bodies of the brave police personnel who sacrificed their lives in the attack were transported to Sheikh Zayed Hospital. To ensure prompt medical attention, the hospital administration canceled the leave of doctors and paramedical staff, imposing an emergency.

According to the police spokesman, two police vehicles were returning from their weekly duty in the Kacha area when one of them suddenly broke down. Taking advantage of the situation, the attackers launched a rocket assault on the stranded vehicle.

Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed profound grief and sorrow over the martyrdom of police personnel in the Rahim Yar Khan Kacha area. She vowed that their sacrifices will never be forgotten.

She directed authorities to take swift action to recover the missing policemen and sought an immediate report from the Inspector General (IG) of Police. Additionally, she ordered the provision of top-notch medical care to injured police personnel.

Acting on the CM's instructions, IG Punjab Police Dr. Usman Anwar, Additional IG Special Branch, Additional IG CTD, and other relevant officials departed for Rahim Yar Khan to oversee the situation.

According to IG Punjab, the attack has claimed the lives of 9 police personnel, with the number expected to rise. Reports indicate that most of the personnel on board were injured in the assault.

The Punjab Chief Minister also directed Home Secretary Noor Alamin Mangal to immediately proceed to the location.

Upon receiving the Chief Minister's instructions, Interior Secretary Mangal swiftly departed for the Kacha area to oversee a comprehensive operation against the perpetrators. The mission aims to bring the attackers to justice and ensure a decisive end to such incidents.

CM Maryam Nawaz has emphasized that those responsible for attacking police personnel will face severe consequences, and a thorough operation will be conducted to ensure their swift apprehension.
