Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar said there was no threat to the government from the decision of the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) as the unity government has the support of 209 members.
The Sunni Ittehad Council had filed petitions before the Supreme Court, seeking justice by the law. The petitioner in this case was the Sunni Etihad Council, and there was also an application from Kanwal Shuzab. Following the success of Articles 51 and 106 of the Constitution, the Sunni Ittehad (SIC) Council joined the case.
After reviewing the rules and regulations, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) determined that the SIC was not entitled to the reserved seat.
It was declared that those who joined the Sunni Ittehad Council would be considered independent. Independent members, however, are typically part of political parties. The decision, delivered today with an 8-5 majority, involved the SIC seeking relief.
Despite PTI not being a party to the case or claiming specific seats, relief was granted to PT . By Article 185, when the Supreme Court conducts reviews, it generally adheres to matters previously addressed by lower courts.
He said 80 percent of the assembly members were not presented before the court, and their notifications were set aside without proper notice, which Justice Yahya Afridi highlighted.
Tarar mentioned that the ECP could rehear these members. Among the individuals, 39 declared their affiliation with PTI, despite the party's absence of a governing body.
