The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Saturday filed a review petition in the Peshawar High Court, challenging the order related to the election symbol of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The move comes in the wake of the Election Commission's earlier directive, issued on November 23, mandating PTI to conduct party elections within 20 days to retain the distinctive bat symbol.
The review petition, filed by the Election Commission's lawyer, urged the formation of a special 2-member bench for an expedited hearing. Additionally, the petition seeks the lifting of the injunction and the establishment of a divisional bench to oversee the case.
ECP's last decision
On December 22, the Election Commission of Pakistan declared the intra-party election of Tehreek-e-Insaf null and void, subsequently revoking the party's bat symbol.
Responding to this decision, the Peshawar High Court, on December 26, suspended the Election Commission's move to withdraw the 'bat' symbol from PTI.
During the hearing, Justice Kamran Hayat Mian Khel overturned the Election Commission's decision related to intra-party elections and directed the commission to publish PTI's certificate on its website.
