"Jurassic Park" star Sam Neill died of pneumonia, his agent said on Thursday, providing clarity for fans.
Neill died in Australia on Monday at the age of 78, his family said in a statement. His family said he was cancer-free at the time of his death but did not give the cause.
Long-time agent Philip Grenz said he had spoken with Neill's family to clarify the details.
Grenz said Neill died from pneumonia after successfully overcoming lymphoma through CAR-T therapy.
The actor's family will hold a private memorial service in New Zealand at a later date.
Grenz said Neill was a private man and his family would honour his wishes with a private ceremony at his farm in New Zealand.
He also said Neill completed four projects during the past year, and they will be released in the coming months.
Neill revealed in his 2023 memoir that he had stage-three non-Hodgkin lymphoma and feared he might be dying.
Earlier this year, he said he was cancer-free after genetic therapy that modified his immune system.
Born in Northern Ireland in 1947, Neill moved to New Zealand as a child.
He was christened Nigel John Dermot but later adopted the name Sam.
Neill began his acting career in New Zealand films in the early 1970s before taking larger roles in Australia.
Neill's acting prowess acknowledged in 'Jurassic Park'
His international breakthrough came in 1993 when he played Dr Alan Grant in the blockbuster "Jurassic Park".
Away from acting, he owned vineyards in the Central Otago region of New Zealand's South Island.
Tributes came from friends, colleagues, neighbours, director Steven Spielberg, and fellow "Jurassic Park" actors Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum.
