Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has accepted actor Tom Holland's dinner invitation after revealing he accidentally ignored the Spider-Man star's direct message because he did not recognise who it was from.
Speaking on the Norwegian interview show A Laget, Haaland admitted he initially dismissed the message after assuming it had been sent by an unknown person.
"Yes, of course. This is a bit embarrassing, to be completely honest," Haaland said.
"We were in Monaco at the Formula 1, and then I got a message. I don't watch movies much, so I have no idea who people are."
The Norwegian international said he chose not to reply because he did not recognise the sender.
"There was one asking if we could go out for dinner, but I'd never seen him, so I didn't bother to answer. I didn't want to answer an unknown person," he added.
Realisation sparks viral moment
After later discovering the message had come from Tom Holland, Haaland admitted he had forgotten about the invitation.
"I think I'll have to send him a message now. I'd completely forgotten about it," he said.
The story quickly spread across social media and was later mentioned by Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, referencing a viral post about Holland being left on read.
'Just name the place'
Haaland has since publicly accepted the invitation by commenting on The Tonight Show's Instagram post.
"Dinner invitation accepted @tomholland2013. A little late. Just name the place!" the Manchester City forward wrote.
His response delighted fans, many of whom welcomed the friendly exchange between two of the world's biggest stars from sport and entertainment.
