Samsung is expected to unveil two book-style foldable smartphones at its Galaxy Unpacked event on July 22, according to a fresh leak suggesting the company is splitting its premium foldable lineup into the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.
The leak, attributed to WinFuture's Roland Quandt, claims Samsung is introducing two foldables with different priorities — one focusing on portability and usability, while the other targets photography enthusiasts with flagship hardware.
Samsung has confirmed the date of its Galaxy Unpacked event in London but has not officially announced either device or their specifications.
Fold 8 to feature wider design
According to the leaked specifications, the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 will feature a 7.6-inch inner display with a wider 4:3 aspect ratio, alongside a 5.5-inch cover screen designed to feel more like a conventional smartphone when folded.
The handset is also expected to weigh just 201 grams, making it significantly lighter than the current Galaxy Z Fold 7.
The wider cover display could improve typing, one-handed use and multitasking while offering a more tablet-like experience when unfolded.
Ultra model prioritises cameras
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is expected to retain Samsung's familiar foldable design while introducing more premium hardware.
The leaked specifications include:
- 8-inch inner display
- 6.5-inch cover display
- 200MP main camera
- 50MP ultrawide camera
- 10MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom
- 5,000mAh battery
The standard Fold 8, meanwhile, is tipped to feature a 50MP main camera, 50MP ultrawide camera and a slightly smaller 4,800mAh battery.
Both devices are expected to be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor, feature 120Hz displays, 45W wired charging, wireless charging and IP48 water and dust resistance.
Leaked prices
According to the report, Samsung could price the foldables as follows:
- Galaxy Z Fold 8: Starting at $1,899
- Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra: Starting at $2,099
If accurate, the standard Fold 8 would launch $100 cheaper than the Galaxy Z Fold 7, while the Ultra would cost $100 more, creating a clearer distinction between the two models.
Flex Titanium confirmed
Samsung has already confirmed that its next-generation foldables will feature Flex Titanium, a new display structure using a titanium-alloy support layer designed to improve durability and reduce the visibility of the display crease.
However, the company has not confirmed which devices will use the technology or whether it will significantly improve long-term durability.
Samsung is expected to reveal full specifications, pricing and availability during Galaxy Unpacked on July 22.
