Pakistan is witnessing a rapid rise in the local production of 5G smartphones, with the number of registered 5G devices reaching 3.81 million, according to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
The development is expected to improve consumer access to affordable 5G-compatible handsets ahead of the country's future 5G rollout.
The PTA said the total number of registered 5G mobile phones in Pakistan has climbed to 3.81 million, reflecting increasing consumer readiness for next-generation mobile connectivity.
However, the regulator emphasized that users will require 5G-compatible smartphones to access 5G services once they become available in the country.
Some devices will require software updates
According to official documents, not all compatible smartphones will be ready to use 5G immediately.
The PTA noted that some 5G devices will also require a software update to activate 5G functionality, depending on the manufacturer and handset model.
Pakistan's domestic smartphone manufacturing industry has significantly expanded its production of 5G devices. Official documents show that 162,040 locally manufactured 5G smartphones were produced during April alone.
By May, the cumulative number of locally manufactured 5G devices had reached 961,326, highlighting the rapid pace of domestic production.
Affordable smartphones to boost 5G adoption
The PTA believes that increased local manufacturing will make 5G smartphones available at relatively lower prices, helping more consumers upgrade to compatible devices.
According to the documents, multiple companies are now manufacturing 5G smartphones locally, strengthening Pakistan's mobile manufacturing sector and supporting wider adoption of next-generation technology.
Pakistan prepares for next generation of connectivity
As Pakistan moves closer to launching 5G services, the growing availability of locally assembled 5G smartphones is expected to play a key role in ensuring consumers are ready for the transition.
The PTA reiterated that owning a compatible handset—and, in some cases, installing the latest software update—will be essential for users to benefit from 5G services when they are introduced.
