United States President Donald Trump asked on Wednesday Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to withdraw Israeli military forces from Lebanon and Syria.
According to Axios, Trump made the request after meeting the Syrian president in Türkiye. The report said Trump told Netanyahu that the Israeli military presence in Syria and Lebanon was increasing tensions.
Trump asked Israel to withdraw its forces from both countries, the report added.
Netanyahu unlikely to accept Trump's request: Axios
Axios reported that Netanyahu was unlikely to accept the request because of domestic political considerations ahead of the election.
The report also said Israeli forces remain in some areas from which they were due to withdraw under the framework agreement between Israel and Lebanon.
