The FIFA has announced that it will sell pieces of the pitch used for the World Cup final after the tournament ends.
The limited-edition memorabilia will include authentic pieces of the pitch, preserved inside an acrylic display. The FIFA said each item will come in a premium collector's edition box.
The pieces will be available in four price categories: $450, $900, $1,200 and $3,000. The most expensive edition includes a piece of turf, a gold-plated replica of the World Cup final ticket, a miniature replica of the match ball and a crystal-cut World Cup trophy.
Only 2,026 pieces will be produced in each price category, making the collection a limited edition for football supporters.
Initiative can generate $11m in revenue for FIFA
According to some sources, the initiative could generate $11 million in revenue for FIFA. It adds to the commercial success of the tournament, which has already received criticism over the high cost of tickets.
The World Cup final will take place on 20 July at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The stadium is expected to be at full capacity for the match.
FIFA has confirmed that the collectible pitch pieces will be shipped only after the final. They will initially be delivered only to customers in the United States and Europe.
