Veteran politician and PML-N Senator Rana Maqbool Ahmed has passed away.
Rana Maqbool has previously served as the former inspector general of Sindh police. He was also among the co-accused in the airplane conspiracy case.
Senate Chairma Sadiq Sanjrani, National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and former prime minister Shehbaz Sharif have expressed condolences to Rana Maqbool’s family.
The senator had been unwell for some time. He had been elected as the senator from Punjab in March 2018. He also remained the chairman of a Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat and a member of several other important committees.
Rana Maqbool has also served as the inspector general of Sindh police. The PML-N leader was also among the co-accused in the plane conspiracy case.
PML-N President and former prime minister Shehbaz Sharif PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif expressed grief over Rana Maqbool’s death and condoled with his family.
“Today is a sad day for the PML-N family,” Shehbaz said in a statement, adding that Rana Maqbool was a close and trusted associate of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif.
“This decades-old friendship remained with mutual trust till the end,” Shehbaz remarked, adding that Rana Maqbool was a brave, serious and intelligent personality. He handled matters with wisdom.
The former premier further said that during his police service, Rana Maqbool rendered valuable services for the eradication of crime.
Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani telephoned the son of the deceased and expressed his condolences over his father’s death. He called Rana Maqbool an excellent political worker and parliamentarian.
Because of his police service, he drafted the best legislation on criminal laws.
National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf also expressed his grief over the death of Rana Maqbool. He said the political and social services of the deceased will always be remembered.
