The Environmental Protection Department’s field teams stopped and impounded two Punjab University buses on Canal Road after they were found emitting excessive smoke.
According to details, inspections revealed that the buses also lacked valid Vehicle Inspection Certificates (VICS), a mandatory requirement for roadworthiness.
Officials stated that the smoke-emitting buses were not only contributing to environmental pollution but also posed a health risk to students.
Deputy Director Environment Ali Ejaz said the action was taken in accordance with clear directives issued by the Lahore High Court.
The department has initiated legal proceedings against the seized buses under the Environmental Act and has decided to further intensify inspections across the city to combat rising air pollution.
