Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday congratulated Field Marshal Asim Munir on becoming Pakistan’s first-ever Chief of Defence Forces, calling his elevation a “historic appointment” and praising his leadership in securing what the government has described as a decisive national victory.
In a detailed statement, the prime minister said Field Marshal Asim Munir had played a pivotal role in leading Pakistan’s armed forces to a “historic victory in the Battle for Truth.”
He said the people of Pakistan would “always remember his bold and courageous leadership,” which unified the armed services, strengthened national morale, and ensured the country’s security during a critical period.

Calling him the “sentinel of the nation’s security,” the PM said Munir’s appointment marks a new chapter in Pakistan’s defence framework.

Air chief congratulated
The premier also felicitated Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu on the extension of his tenure, praising the Pakistan Air Force under his command. He said the PAF had demonstrated “unmatched professionalism,” successfully destroying seven enemy aircraft and sophisticated missile defence systems, reinforcing Pakistan’s air superiority.

The PM added that all national institutions remain united for the defence, development and prosperity of the country, expressing hope that Pakistan’s defence will become “truly invincible.”
Khawaja Asif joins in national tributes
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif also issued a congratulatory message for both Field Marshal Munir and Air Chief Sidhu. He said the nation was honouring “the victors who bestowed the country with a historic victory,” and thanked Allah for granting Pakistan leaders who had delivered exceptional service.

“This honour is an acknowledgment of the eternal service of millions of defenders of the homeland,” Asif wrote on X, offering prayers for their continued success.
He congratulated Field Marshal Asim Munir and Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu, saying the nation is proud of its brave forces and their leadership.
