Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended on Wednesday the National Assembly for fostering unity and solidarity after the House passed the 27th Amendment bill with a two-thirds majority.
Addressing the NA session, the prime minister said that a rare spirit of cohesion prevailed in the House. “On behalf of all party leaders and myself, I extend congratulations to every member,” he said.
Paying tribute to the late Senator Irfan Siddiqui, a senior leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), the prime minister said that Siddiqui had served the party with complete dedication and responsibility throughout his political career.
Speaking about the recent acts of terrorism, the premier said: "The militants once again attempted to spread chaos through cowardly attacks in Wana. “The incident reminded the nation of the tragedy of the Army Public School,” he said, adding that those involved, including elements from Afghanistan, had been eliminated.
He expressed deep sorrow over the martyrdom of 12 people in the Islamabad District Courts attack and condemned the involvement of extremists in both the Wana and Islamabad incidents.
The prime minister paid tribute to the armed forces for safely recovering the students and teachers held captive during the Wana operation.
PM thanks CJP for support in revenue cases
PM Shehbaz has expressed gratitude to Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi for his support in resolving revenue cases worth billions of rupees.
The premier stated that the Chief Justice had extended full assistance while remaining within the constitutional framework. He said that significant progress in major revenue matters had been achieved through the Chief Justice’s cooperation.
He announced that the CJP would continue to serve as the head of the Judicial Commission, the Supreme Judicial Council and the Law and Justice Commission.
