The deputy commissioner of Shaheed Benazirabad, Abdul Samad Nizamani, has announced a public holiday on November 17 (Monday) in connection with the 754th annual Urs of Syed Asghar Ali Shah, widely revered as Sakhi Jam Datar.
According to the official notification issued on Friday, the holiday will apply across the Shaheed Benazirabad district, allowing residents to take part in the annual spiritual celebrations.
Three-day Urs celebrations
The three-day Urs celebrations will be held at Jam Sahib from November 17 to 19, marking the rich spiritual and cultural heritage associated with Sakhi Jam Datar, one of the region’s most respected Sufi saints.
Deputy Commissioner Nizamani said that the district administration is coordinating preparations to ensure smooth conduct of the events and to facilitate devotees expected to arrive from different parts of Sindh and other provinces.
10th Thal Jeep Rally kicks off
Meanwhile, in a separate development, the 10th Thal Jeep Rally began with great enthusiasm as the event grounds were decorated and registration completed on the opening day. Around 100 male and female racers have registered for the competition.
The first day included technical inspections, tagging, and medical check-ups of participants. The qualifying round will see drivers racing on a three-kilometer track in the Muzaffargarh desert, showcasing their skills and speed.
Rally dedicated to flood victims
Former champion Nader Magsi expressed his joy over the rally being dedicated to flood victims, calling it a symbol of resilience and hope. “It’s been 10 years, and the rally continues to grow with a large number of fans attending. This year, the track is excellent and the drivers will really enjoy it,” he said.
He added that despite initial doubts about the rally taking place due to flood damage, it has been successfully organized with proceeds and attention directed toward supporting flood-affected communities.
In celebration of the jeep rally and local fair, the deputy commissioner of Muzaffargarh has also announced a local holiday on Saturday, November 8, across the district. The move aims to give citizens an opportunity to attend and enjoy the event.
