The series of talks between the Pakistani and Afghan delegations has resumed in Istanbul.
Earlier, it was reported that the negotiations had been suspended following an unprovoked firing incident at the Afghan border in the Spin Boldak. The Pakistani delegation presented evidence of unprovoked firing from the Afghan border before the Afghan side. Both delegations are presently in contact with their respective national institutions. Evidence of ceasefire violations from the Afghan border has been handed over to Turkish and Qatari mediators.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting stated that the ceasefire along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border had been breached. Certain elements from the Afghan side opened unprovoked fire on Pakistani posts at the Chaman border, to which the security forces gave an immediate and effective response.
Pakistan has rejected Afghanistan’s claim regarding the incident, saying that the firing was initiated from the Afghan side and was promptly answered by Pakistani forces. Owing to their responsible action, the situation was brought under control.
The ceasefire between Pakistan and Afghanistan remains in place. Pakistan has remained committed to the ongoing negotiations and expects continued cooperation from the Afghan authorities.
