Two fresh cases of polio have been confirmed in Pakistan, raising the total number of cases across the country this year to 26. Both infections were detected in the southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where health officials continue to battle the virus’s spread.
Details of new cases
According to the National Polio Emergency Operation Center, one case was confirmed in Sulemankhel Union Council, Lakki Marwat, where an 11-month-old girl was infected.
The second case involved a 19-month-old girl from Mir Ali II Union Council, North Waziristan, who was also disabled by the virus.
The National Institute of Health (NIH) in Islamabad verified both cases through laboratory testing.
Polio situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
With the latest cases, the total number of children infected with polio in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) this year has risen to 18.
Within KP, cases have been reported from multiple districts, including:

Tank, Lakki Marwat and North Waziristan: 4 cases each
- Bannu: 3 cases

Torghar, Dera Ismail Khan, and Kohistan Lower: 1 case each
This makes KP the most polio-affected province in Pakistan.
