A Pakistan Army MI-17 helicopter crashed near Chilas on Monday morning, leaving five personnel, including the pilot and crew, martyred, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Helicopter on routine training mission
ISPR said the incident occurred around 10am when the helicopter, engaged in a routine training flight, crash-landed in the mountainous region near Chilas after developing a technical fault. It confirmed that all five individuals on board embraced martyrdom in the crash.
The helicopter crashed in Hador village, 12km from Thakdas cantonment, as per the statement.

Their sacrifice, officials noted, reflects the unwavering commitment of Pakistan’s armed forces in the line of duty. The ISPR statement said training missions are part of the routine activities of Army Aviation, aimed at preparing for natural disasters and other relief operations.
"The Pakistan Army is committed to ensuring operational readiness in every aspect," ISPR said.
Official response
The Pakistan Army expressed deep grief over the loss of its brave soldiers, with tributes pouring in for the martyrs who lost their lives in service to the country. The ISPR said investigations have been initiated to determine the cause of the crash.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the tragic crash near Chilas. He prayed for the highest ranks in paradise for the martyrs and extended heartfelt condolences to their families. The PM also prayed for patience and strength for the bereaved families to bear this irreparable loss.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also expressed profound sorrow over the crash landing of the military helicopter. Paying tribute to the martyred officers, including Major Atif, Major Faisal, and three other personnel, he said they embraced martyrdom while performing their duty with courage and dedication.
Naqvi said the sacrifices of the martyrs would always be remembered, adding that he shares the grief of their families during this difficult time. He also prayed for patience and fortitude for the bereaved families.
