Flood-related incidents and collapsing rooftops have left several people dead and many others injured in different districts of Punjab, as rivers continue to swell and villages remain submerged.
Rescue teams are struggling to reach stranded families, while locals are pulling survivors and bodies out on their own in some areas.
Sohawa: Roof collapse injures 3
In Sohawa’s Domeli area, three people, including two children and an elderly man, were injured after the roof of a house collapsed. The victims, identified as Kamran, Abdullah Kamran, and Ahiza Noor, were shifted to the Domeli Rural Health Center for treatment.
Six swept away in Majra Kalan floods
In Sambrial’s Majra Kalan village, six people, including five members of the same family, were swept away by powerful floodwaters. The bodies of a woman and her daughter were recovered, while her husband Imran and their two children remain missing. Another villager, Shani, who had gone to bring relatives back from an outhouse, is also missing.
More than 50 villages have been submerged by the overflowing Chenab River. So far, 110 stranded people have been rescued, but many remain trapped in their homes waiting for help.
Hafizabad: Snake bite and drowning claim 2 lives
Two people lost their lives in Hafizabad’s flood-hit Bahak Ahmad Yar area. One man died after being bitten by a snake, while another drowned in floodwaters. Locals also reported the death of more than 10 livestock animals, further compounding the misery of affected families. Over a dozen villages in the area have been cut off from the main city.
Gujrat: Dam Breaks, Children Drown
The Chenab River dam at Shahbazpur in Gujrat broke, sending water gushing into residential settlements. At least three children drowned, including cousins Abdul Rauf (13) and Samiullah (12). One child was rescued alive.
Locals claim more than 100 people are still trapped, with rescue teams unable to reach in time. Families themselves managed to recover the bodies of the children.
Gujranwala: Women Stranded on Roofs
In Gujranwala’s Ghaziabad, several women trapped in floodwaters climbed onto rooftops waiting for rescue boats. Their families, standing along the riverbanks, anxiously awaited their safe evacuation.
Jhelum: Roof Collapse Kills 3-Year-Old Girl
In Jhelum’s Godha Uttam Singh village, the roof of a house collapsed, killing a three-year-old girl named Aizal Noor. Two others were injured in the incident. Rescuers pulled the victims from the debris and shifted them to Domeli Rural Health Center.
Lodhran: Young Man Drowns in River
In Lodhran’s Qureshiwala area, 22-year-old Azam drowned while bathing in the river. Rescue teams later recovered his body.
