Lemon-infused water, whether warm or cold, holds several health benefits, according to Dr Mohamed Afifi, a consultant in therapeutic nutrition.
The beverage contains vitamin C and antioxidants, which support immune function and make it a useful option for combating infections and viruses.
The health experts stated that lemon water helps maintain hydration, supports collagen production vital for skin health, and improves digestion while preventing bloating. He recommended its consumption early in the morning on an empty stomach, as it aids the body in eliminating toxins.
Beyond digestion and immunity, scientific research has shown that lemon water plays a role in preventing kidney stone formation due to its citric acid content. It also reduces appetite and promotes a feeling of fullness, which may assist with fat loss when consumed regularly.
According to details, the citric acid in lemons enhances metabolic function, while the antioxidants in lemon water help to combat skin ageing, reduce wrinkles and treat acne.
Other reported benefits include support for heart health. The potassium in lemon water contributes to lower blood pressure, protects against arterial stiffness and reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease. The drink may also ease stress and promote relaxation, due to compounds that benefit the nervous system.
Despite its advantages, the health experts advised caution for individuals with acid reflux or gastritis. Lemon, as a citrus fruit, can aggravate symptoms in those with underlying stomach issues.
