Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir undertook an official visit to China, where he held a series of high-level meetings with top Chinese political and military leaders.
The visit marks a deepening of the already robust strategic partnership between the two neighbouring allies.
During his stay in Beijing, COAS Asim Munir called on Chinese Vice President Han Zheng and Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The leaders exchanged views on the evolving global and regional geopolitical landscape, connectivity schemes under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), and the need for collective strategies to address shared geopolitical challenges.
According to a statement by Inter-Services Public Relations, both sides reaffirmed the depth of bilateral engagement, highlighting the importance of sovereign equality, multilateral collaboration, and long-term regional stability.
The Chinese leadership commended the Pakistani armed forces for their vital role in maintaining peace and security in South Asia, describing them as a pillar of regional resilience.
On the military front, Field Marshal Asim Munir held key meetings with senior officials of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), including General Zhang Youxia, the vice chairman of the Central Military Commission; General Chen Hui, political commissar of the PLA Army; and Lt Gen Cai Zhai Jun, chief of staff of the PLA Army.
Upon his arrival at the PLA Army Headquarters, the COAS was accorded a guard of honour.
The discussions focused on expanding defence and security cooperation, with emphasis on counterterrorism collaboration, joint training programs, military modernization, and strengthening institutional linkages. Both sides agreed on the need for improved operational interoperability and strategic coordination to counter hybrid and transnational threats.
The Chinese military leadership expressed full confidence in the enduring strength of the bilateral defence partnership and acknowledged Pakistan’s pivotal role in promoting peace and stability in the region.
Field Marshal Asim Munir conveyed gratitude for China’s unwavering support to Pakistan and reiterated the armed forces' commitment to further enhancing military-to-military cooperation in all spheres.
The field marshal also held a comprehensive meeting with General Chen Hui, the political commissar of the PLA. The two leaders discussed matters of mutual interest, focusing on defense collaboration and regional security cooperation. Later, he had a meeting with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng, where discussions centered around bilateral relations and expanding defense cooperation between Pakistan and China.
