Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) President Abdul Aleem Khan announced on Friday developmental projects for South Punjab.
Speaking at the Marka-e-Haq Convention in Layyah, Khan announced that work on the Layyah-Taunsa bridge would commence in the coming days. He said that the project would be inaugurated by Rafiqat Gilani, adding that development work on the Multan-Mianwali road would soon be underway.
Highlighting the longstanding neglect of South Punjab, Khan remarked, "The region has suffered significant deprivation and injustice." He said that while there is no need to change the name of Punjab, it is essential to acknowledge the distinct needs of North and South Punjab. He called for similar distinctions in other provinces, saying, “There should be a North and South in Sindh, as well as in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.”
Aleem Khan emphasised that the IPP would continue to advance with this vision as a central part of its manifesto. He called for the creation of a separate province for South Punjab, stressing that it would lead to greater employment opportunities for locals.
“If I am granted a ministerial position, I will establish a medical college here,” he said. “And if someone else holds the portfolio, I will ensure they do the same.”
He also pledged to build high-quality roads in Layyah and asserted that once a new province is formed, there would no longer be a need for administrative divisions. “Layyah will become a beautiful and developed region,” he said.
