The lemon prices witnessed on Wednesday whooping increase amid scorching heat in Multan.
According to details, the citizens generally use lemon for the making of lemonade, limca and other drinks. However, a sudden and unofficial hike in lemon prices has left people shocked.
One of the citizens said: "I came here to buy lemons, but when I heard the price — Rs800 per kilo — I was stunned. My children ask me to bring lemons so they can have shikanjabeen in this heat, but I simply can’t afford them at these rates."
Just a week ago, lemons were selling for 500 rupees per kilo. Now, the price has surged to 800 rupees, with shopkeepers reportedly ignoring official price lists.
Meanwhile, one of the shopkeepers said, "The wholesale rate in the market is 800 rupees. How can we sell for less here? The official list puts the price at 535 rupees, which is unrealistic — we’re not even buying lemons at that rate anymore."
Citizens have urged the local administration to take action and control the rising prices of lemons.
