Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, marking their second call in a week amid escalating tensions between Pakistan and India following the Pahalgam incident.
During the discussion, both leaders shared serious concerns over the volatile security situation in South Asia. The prime minister appreciated the secretary general’s continued engagement and interest in regional peace, particularly in light of recent developments.
Reiterates call for impartial investigation
Prime Minister Shehbaz once again extended Pakistan’s offer for an “independent, transparent, impartial, and credible investigation” into the Pahalgam attack, stressing that India has yet to provide any evidence for its allegations against Pakistan while continuing to issue provocative and incendiary statements.

He condemned what he called India's attempts to politicize international financial institutions and target Pakistan’s economic interests through unfair lobbying efforts. “Despite the baseless allegations, Pakistan has acted with maturity and responsibility,” the PM said.
Pakistan committed to peace, sovereignty
The PM emphasized that Pakistan desires peace in the region but will not compromise on its sovereignty and territorial integrity. He reaffirmed his government’s resolve to defend the country against any form of aggression.
“We welcome international efforts to reduce tensions and avoid conflict,” said Shehbaz, adding that war is not a solution and must be avoided at all costs.
UN ready to play a mediating role
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres briefed Shehbaz on the group's efforts for peace and stability in the region. In a media briefing earlier, he noted that tensions between Pakistan and India were on the rise, stating that the United Nations condemns the Pahalgam attack and is deeply saddened by the loss of innocent lives. He urged both Pakistan and India to exercise restraint and work toward de-escalation.
“War is not a solution. It will only worsen the situation,” Guterres warned. He also expressed the UN’s readiness to play a constructive role in easing tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours and emphasized his commitment to remain in touch with all sides.

The secretary general reaffirmed his support for peace and stability in the region and encouraged diplomatic dialogue to prevent further escalation.
Earlier on Monday, PM Shehbaz urged Britain to use its friendly relations with both Pakistan and India to help de-escalate the situation. “We hope the UK will play a constructive role in easing tensions and promoting dialogue,” he said in a meeting with British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott in Islamabad.
Prime Minister Shehbaz reiterated Pakistan’s position that any investigation into the incident must be transparent, impartial, and conducted at an international level. He extended an open invitation to the United Kingdom to join such a probe, highlighting Islamabad’s commitment to truth and regional peace.
