With just one day left for the deadline to submit income tax returns, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is considering a possible extension due to increased pressure on its online filing system.
Reports surfaced on Sunday indicating that the FBR's system has slowed considerably, complicating the submission process for numerous taxpayers.
This has led to widespread concerns about meeting the September 30 deadline.
In light of these challenges, the FBR has reportedly decided to recommend to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif that the deadline for filing tax returns be extended.
As of September 28, approximately 290,000 returns have been filed, a notable increase from the 140,000 submitted during the same period last year.
Despite the surge in filings, the slow response time of the FBR's system has left many taxpayers anxious about their ability to comply with the looming deadline.
To assist the public during this critical time, the FBR has announced extended operational hours for its field offices, which will remain open longer to accommodate taxpayers.
