The University of the Punjab (PU) has launched an AI-powered Admission Assistant Chatbot to provide round-the-clock support to prospective students, marking the first time the university has introduced an artificial intelligence-based admissions help service.
According to data released by the university, the chatbot handled 115,915 conversations between June 1 and August 4, 2026, averaging 1,783 conversations per day during the 65-day admission campaign.
The AI assistant, available on the university's official website, is designed to instantly answer admission-related questions, allowing students to access information without waiting for office hours.
The university said the chatbot exchanged 351,376 messages with users over the past 30 days, highlighting strong engagement throughout the admission cycle.
Weekly usage peaked during key admission milestones, including entry tests and result announcements. The highest demand was recorded during the week of July 27 to August 2, when the chatbot processed 21,245 conversations, reflecting increased student activity ahead of the admission portal's closure.
Punjab University also reported a significant rise in applications following the introduction of the AI assistant. Completed first-phase applications for Fall 2026 reached approximately 113,000, compared with around 87,000 during the same phase in Fall 2025—an increase of 29.9%.
University officials said the chatbot has improved accessibility by offering 24/7 support, enabling students to receive instant responses to admission-related queries at any time.
The institution believes the initiative has enhanced the overall admission experience, increased student engagement and contributed to the rise in application numbers.
Punjab University described the AI-powered Admission Assistant as a step towards modernising student services and making the admissions process more efficient and accessible for applicants across Pakistan.
