An Iranian attack damaged a power generation and water desalination plant in Kuwait on Friday, prompting authorities to activate emergency measures to protect the country's electricity grid.
The incident comes amid escalating military tensions between Iran and the United States over the Strait of Hormuz.
Kuwait's Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy confirmed that one of the country's power generation and water distillation plants was struck in what it described as an Iranian attack.
According to the ministry, the strike caused significant damage to the facility, sparked a fire and affected several electricity generation units, forcing authorities to activate emergency plans to contain the impact and maintain the stability of the national power grid.
Fire brought under control
The ministry said Kuwait Fire Force teams quickly brought the fire under control following the attack.
Emergency and technical teams, working in coordination with relevant authorities, immediately began assessing the damage, securing the facility and restoring the affected electricity generation units as quickly as possible.
Officials said teams are continuing to work around the clock to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply, closely monitor the national grid and minimize any further disruption.
Public urged to conserve electricity
The Ministry of Electricity urged citizens and residents to reduce electricity consumption during the ongoing emergency.
It said public cooperation would help maintain the stability of the power grid, support technical teams managing the network and facilitate repair work at the damaged facility.

The ministry added that further updates would be issued through official channels as restoration efforts continue.
Kuwait intercepts missiles, drones
Kuwait's General Staff said the country's air defence systems intercepted incoming missiles and hostile drones during what it described as ongoing Iranian aggression.
Military officials said any explosions heard across the country resulted from air defence systems engaging aerial threats and urged the public to follow safety instructions issued by the relevant authorities.
IRGC says US base was target
Earlier on Friday, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that its Aerospace Force had launched the 12th wave of its retaliatory operation, claiming it targeted a US military base in Kuwait.
According to Iran's semi-official Mehr News Agency, the IRGC said the operation targeted a missile defence detection and tracking radar, several weapons depots, two High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) launchers and missiles stored for the system.
The IRGC also claimed the strike caused a large fire at the military base.
Regional tensions have continued to intensify since February, when the United States and Israel launched a joint military offensive against Iran.

Tehran responded with missile and drone attacks targeting Gulf countries hosting US military assets.
Last month, Iran and the United States signed a Pakistan-brokered memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the conflict and achieving a lasting peace agreement.
However, tensions have sharply escalated again in recent days over the Strait of Hormuz, with both sides exchanging fresh military strikes despite the earlier agreement.
