The Balochistan government has announced a major restructuring of the province’s administrative map, creating new districts, divisions, subdivisions and tehsils through an official notification.
The sweeping changes include the division of Quetta, Khuzdar and Dera Bugti districts, the abolition of the historic Kalat Division and the reassignment of several districts to different divisions.
Under the new administrative structure, Quetta district has been divided into Quetta East and Quetta West. The government has also established Baruri and Panjpai as new subdivisions within Quetta West.
The changes are intended to improve administrative management and the delivery of public services in the provincial capital and its surrounding areas.
Kalat Division abolished
The historic Kalat Division has been abolished as part of the administrative reshuffle. Two new divisions, Khuzdar and Lasbela, have been established in its place.
The notification also reorganised the divisional affiliation of several districts that were previously part of Kalat or other divisions.
Wadh declared new district
Khuzdar district has been divided, with Wadh granted the status of a separate district. The creation of Wadh district is among the most significant changes introduced under the new administrative arrangement.
Shaheed Sikanderabad district has also been renamed Sorab district.
Mastung district has been removed from the former Kalat Division and included in Quetta Division. Kachhi district has been separated from Naseerabad Division and made part of Siwi Division.
Ziarat and Harnai districts will now be included in Loralai Division under the revised administrative structure.
Dera Bugti split into two districts
Dera Bugti district has been divided into two separate administrative units: North Dera Bugti and South Dera Bugti.
The division is expected to create more localised administrative arrangements in the geographically extensive district.
The notification did not provide further details about the headquarters or territorial boundaries of the two newly created districts.
Sherani headquarters shifted to Manikha
The headquarters of Sherani district has been relocated from Astana to Manikha.
The change places the district administration in a new central location under the provincial government’s revised plan.
Ormara and Jeyoni in Gwadar district have been granted the status of subdivisions. The move is expected to strengthen administrative oversight in the coastal areas and improve access to government services for local communities.
Together with Baruri and Panjpai in Quetta West, the two coastal areas form part of the new subdivisions announced in the notification.
Several areas upgraded to tehsils
The provincial government has also granted tehsil status to several areas across Balochistan.
Barshor, Mach, Balanadri, Yak Mach, Nag, Karkh and Balnegor have been declared new tehsils. Zaidi in Khuzdar, Khanpur in Jafarabad and Jia Khan in Sohbatpur have also been granted tehsil status.
The creation of these administrative units is expected to bring government offices and public services closer to residents in remote areas.
Spellings of Sibi and Makran changed
The notification also revised the official English spellings of two prominent geographical names.
The official spelling of “Sibi” has been changed to “Sevi,” while “Makran” will now officially be written as “Makuran.”
The latest changes represent one of the most extensive administrative reorganisations in Balochistan, redrawing district and divisional boundaries while creating new local government units across the province.
