Pakistan Air Force Group Captain Asim Tariq was martyred while attempting to rescue a woman at Shaheen Chowk within the jurisdiction of Margalla Police Station.
Group Captain Tariq was passing along Ninth Avenue when he witnessed an attempted assault on a woman by a motorcyclist, who was trying to force her onto the vehicle. He intervened, allowing the woman to flee to the other side of the road.
During the incident, the suspect, identified as Saad, allegedly hurled abusive remarks before opening fire, resulting in fatal injuries to Group Captain Tariq, who fell at the scene. The attacker fled the area, while police initiated the collection of evidence and launched an investigation.
Police, citing the woman’s statement, said the suspect was a colleague who had offered to escort her to work but diverted the route in an attempt to take her elsewhere. She resisted before the officer intervened in time to prevent further harm.
Group Captain Asim Tariq is survived by a widow, a son, and a daughter.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has sought an urgent report from the Islamabad police chief and directed that the suspect be arrested and justice ensured for the family of the deceased.
