The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) said on Friday that weekly inflation declined by 0.59 per cent, bringing the overall rate to 4.26 per cent.
The data showed that prices of 15 essential commodities increased during the past week, while 15 items recorded a decrease. Among the items that registered an increase were garlic, up by 4.35 per cent, mash lentils by 3 per cent, and red chillies by 1.68 per cent. Prices of beef, ghee, cigarettes and clothing also moved upwards.
Conversely, prices of 15 essential items, including eggs, tomatoes, chicken, onions and potatoes, declined. Egg prices fell by 18 per cent, tomatoes by 12 per cent, and chicken by 6.34 per cent over the week. Minor reductions were also recorded in the prices of salt, wheat flour, sugar and LPG.
On a yearly basis, tomato prices rose by 73 per cent and wheat flour by 34 per cent. Meanwhile, potato prices dropped by 45 per cent and live broiler chicken prices fell by 20 per cent, the report stated.
