Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, has said that the Saudi-Pakistan defence pact is rooted in brotherly ties and shared strategic interests.
In an interview with Arab News, Asim Iftikhar said the defence agreement between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia carries historic and strategic importance. He said defence cooperation between the two countries is a continuation of a partnership spanning decades and is founded on fraternal relations and common strategic objectives.
He added that Saudi Arabia is an important economic partner of Pakistan and that, following the defence agreement, economic cooperation is also expanding rapidly.
He said terrorist attacks are targeting Pakistan’s peace and economic stability. He said that the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) are attempting to create unrest in the region, with attacks being organised from safe havens across the border.
Asim Iftikhar said Pakistan will continue its efforts against terrorism and will not allow cross-border safe havens to undermine regional security.
