The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has rejected reports claiming a massive reduction in mobile phone taxes, warning the public against sharing misleading information on social media.
The authority said in an official statement that it has not issued any notification or directive regarding cuts in mobile phone taxes or changes in import rules for mobile phones.
PTA emphasized that the circulating messages have no official basis and appear designed to confuse consumers and mobile phone importers.
No instructions to importers or public
According to the regulator, no instructions or directives have been given to mobile phone importers or the general public regarding taxation relief. Reports suggesting tax cuts are completely false.
The PTA urged citizens to avoid spreading unverified information and rely only on its official website and verified social media accounts for authentic updates.
The authority stressed that misinformation about taxation can create confusion in the market and mislead consumers. It reminded the public that all official updates regarding mobile phone taxes and imports are published solely through PTA’s verified channels.
