International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva acknowledged Pakistan’s economic reform efforts during a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
According to details released on Wednesday, the meeting took place on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF). The prime minister briefed the IMF chief on improvements in Pakistan’s macroeconomic indicators. He also outlined progress on stabilisation measures and institutional reforms.
PM Shehbaz underlined Pakistan’s commitment to fiscal discipline, revenue mobilisation and sustainable growth. Kristalina Georgieva recognised Pakistan’s reform drive and its efforts to strengthen economic stability.
The meeting in Davos stressed cooperation to address the challenges facing emerging economies. PM Shehbaz and IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva discussed global economic trends and the role of multilateral support in maintaining economic stability.

Earlier on Tuesday, PM had arrived in Switzerland to attend the World Economic Forum (WEF). On arrival, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative, Muhammad Bilal, and the Ambassador of Pakistan to Switzerland received the Prime Minister. Members of Pakistan’s diplomatic staff in Switzerland were also present.
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema are accompanying the Prime Minister. Federal Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb and Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar are also part of the delegation. Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi is travelling with him as well.
