Pakistan and Indonesia have agreed to deepen trade ties by establishing new institutional mechanisms aimed at expanding bilateral commerce and unlocking fresh market opportunities for businesses in both countries.

The agreement was reached during talks between Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan and Indonesia’s deputy minister of commerce. Both sides termed the negotiations successful and agreed to take concrete steps to strengthen trade cooperation.

Joint Trade Committee

A key outcome of the talks was the decision to establish a Joint Trade Committee (JTC) between Pakistan and Indonesia. According to the announcement, the JTC will enable regular consultations, address trade-related issues and improve coordination at the institutional level.

Pakistan also announced plans to organise a single-country exhibition and a business forum in Jakarta. The initiative is aimed at showcasing Pakistani products and encouraging direct engagement between business communities of both countries.

Indonesia's interest in Pakistani products

Indonesia expressed strong interest in importing Pakistani minerals, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and agricultural commodities. The Indonesian side also assured Pakistan that it would consider providing improved market access for fruits, rice and industrial potatoes.

Jam Kamal called for upgrading the existing preferential trade agreement into a comprehensive economic partnership. He highlighted palm oil as a critical component of Pakistan’s food needs, underlining its importance in bilateral trade.

Expanding trade volume

Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to further increase bilateral trade, which currently exceeds $4 billion. Officials expressed confidence that enhanced cooperation and new trade platforms would help achieve sustained growth in economic ties.

The agreement reflects a shared resolve by Pakistan and Indonesia to build long-term, mutually beneficial economic relations. Regular engagement through the Joint Trade Committee is expected to play a central role in achieving this goal.
