Federal Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain said sugar prices would fall to Rs 110 per kilogram in the near future.
Speaking to media in Islamabad, he said the government wished to exit the sugar sector. He added that the deregulation committee had sent its report to the Prime Minister.
He said the move would bring stability to the sugar sector.
Separately, in December, it was reported that Sargodha recorded the lowest retail price in the country at Rs170 per kilogram, while in Gujranwala it stood at Rs175 and in Sialkot at Rs172.
