The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is celebrating its 58th Foundation Day on Sunday (today), with district-level gatherings across the country and a major rally planned in Karachi’s Korangi area.
Founded in Lahore on November 30, 1967, the PPP elected Zulfikar Ali Bhutto as its first chairman. The party quickly gained popularity with the slogan ‘Roti, Kapra, aur Makan’ and secured a historic victory in West Pakistan during the 1970 general elections.
PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, paid tribute to the founding members, leaders, and workers of the party on its foundation day. He said from the party’s founder, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, to Benazir Bhutto, the PPP has carried out a historic struggle and made unparalleled sacrifices.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said that the PPP has always fought for public rights and democracy, and its leadership’s efforts has given new direction to national politics.
Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon stated that no other political party in the country’s history has seen its leadership face assassination attempts like the PPP.
Sindh Minister for Local Government, Nasir Shah, said that the PPP’s Foundation Day reminds us that the party is not just about politics but a struggle written in blood.
Minister and PPP Karachi Division President Saeed Ghani highlighted that the party’s formation opened political opportunities for ordinary citizens, previously dominated by landlords and wealthy elites. “The Foundation Day will be celebrated in a grand manner,” he said.
Karachi Mayor and Sindh government spokesperson Barrister Murtaza Wahab emphasized the PPP’s enduring connection with the people, adding that it will continue in the future.
