Pakistan has reported a fresh case of monkeypox after a man returning from a Gulf country tested positive. The patient, a 42-year-old resident of Attock, was confirmed by the National Institute of Health (NIH) on Friday.
Monkeypox case confirmed in Attock
According to health sources, the patient developed symptoms soon after arriving in Islamabad from the Gulf. He was initially admitted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) before being transferred to THQ Hospital Hazro for further treatment.
The National Institute of Health conducted medical tests and confirmed monkeypox in the patient on Monday. Officials said the man is now receiving treatment under isolation protocols.
Second suspected case tested negative
Another passenger who arrived from a different Gulf country was also suspected of carrying the virus. However, health officials later confirmed that the test results came back negative.
This means only one confirmed case has been reported in the latest development, while the other patient was cleared.
