The Meteorological Department has warned of a fresh spell of intense monsoon rains in the upper and central parts of the country from August 14 to 17, with more showers expected nationwide between August 18 and 22.
The heavy downpours may trigger river flooding, landslides, and damage to weak infrastructure.
Monsoon to intensify from mid-August
According to the Met Office, Islamabad, Kashmir, upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and Gilgit-Baltistan will receive heavy rain between August 14 and 17, with some areas likely to experience thunderstorms.
A second round of rain is expected from August 18 to 22, affecting Sindh, Balochistan, southern Punjab, and parts of KP. The forecast also warns of prolonged rainfall in Karachi, with intermittent thundershowers predicted during this period.
Flood and landslide risks
Authorities have cautioned that heavy rains may cause river flooding and waterlogging in low-lying areas, especially in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sialkot, Peshawar, and Nowshera.
The Met Office has also warned of landslides in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Galiyat, and Murree, as well as the possibility of uprooted trees and structural damage due to strong winds and lightning.
Safety advisory for residents and tourists
The Met Office has urged tourists and travelers to avoid unnecessary journeys to high-risk areas during the forecast period. Local authorities have been advised to remain on high alert and take preventive measures to minimize damage.
