United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has recently issued directives for a notable change in the name of Abu Dhabi International Airport.
As per an official press release, the new official name, Zayed International Airport, is slated to come into effect on February 9, 2024. This change aligns with the opening ceremony of the brand-new Terminal A.
Anticipated to be a major aviation hub, Terminal A boasts an impressive capacity, capable of accommodating the simultaneous landing of 70 aircraft. Moreover, it is projected to cater to over 40 million passengers annually.
The decision to rename the airport is a tribute to the legacy of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who has played pivotal roles as both the president of the United Arab Emirates since its formation on December 2, 1971, and as the ruler of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi since 1966.
This move not only signifies a symbolic shift but also pays homage to the enduring contributions of Sheikh Zayed to the nation's history and development.
