Punjab Ministers for Health and Education, Khawaja Imran Nazir and Rana Sikandar Hayat, chaired a high-level meeting where it was decided to launch a national cervical cancer prevention program for the first time in Pakistan's history.
The initiative aims to vaccinate schoolgirls across Punjab against cervical cancer, with the campaign officially starting in November. A target has been set to vaccinate 8 million girls between the ages of 9 and 14.
The vaccination campaign will be extended beyond public schools to include private institutions and madrasas. Health department teams will visit schools to administer the vaccines.
To ensure hundred percent success of the campaign, a joint working group will also be formed.
