The government is set to impose a maximum tuition fee cap of Rs1.8 million per year for MBBS and BDS programs in private medical and dental colleges across the country.
The decision was made during the fifth meeting of the Special Committee on Medical Education, chaired by Ishaq Dar, after extensive consultations with stakeholders.
According to the official announcement, the Rs1.8 million limit will be revised annually based on inflation to ensure sustainability. However, institutions that currently charge fees below the new limit will not be allowed to increase their fees beyond their existing structure except for inflation-based adjustments.
The committee also reviewed fee rationalization, reforms in private medical colleges, and measures to make medical education more accessible.
The move aims to prevent excessive tuition fees in private medical institutions while ensuring that students from all economic backgrounds have access to medical education without financial exploitation.
