World Cancer Day is being observed today across the globe to raise awareness about the disease and its prevention.
In South Punjab, the number of blood cancer patients has exceeded 6,000, highlighting a growing health concern in the region.
According to experts, one of the major causes of cancer in the area is the excessive use of pesticides on fruits and vegetables. Assistant Professor of Pediatric Oncology emphasized that these harmful chemicals pose serious health risks, contributing to the rise in cancer cases.
Dr. Usman Fawad, a specialist in pediatric oncology, revealed that approximately 300 children are diagnosed with blood cancer every month at local healthcare facilities. He stressed that while cancer remains a serious illness, it is treatable if detected early.
Medical professionals continue to emphasize the importance of early diagnosis and timely treatment.
